About this tool
Measure typing speed and accuracy during a 30- or 60-second passage. The timer starts with the first character. Words per minute are calculated from the amount typed divided by elapsed minutes, while accuracy compares correctly matched characters with total compared characters. A session-best WPM value helps track repeated attempts without leaving the page. Typing 40 words in 30 seconds projects to about 80 WPM. If 190 of 200 compared characters match, accuracy is 95%. Use the test before a job application, for keyboard practice, to compare layouts, or as a short classroom activity. A 60-second round generally gives a steadier estimate; 30 seconds is convenient for quick drills. High WPM with many errors is less useful than controlled speed, so read both results together. The random passage, punctuation, unfamiliar words, device, autocorrect, and keyboard all affect performance. This browser test may calculate WPM by typed words rather than the standardized five-character convention used by some certifications, so numbers can differ across services. Keep normal posture, restart for a clean passage, and take breaks if hands or wrists feel uncomfortable.
How to use
Set "Duration" to 30s or 60s before you begin.
Type the displayed passage into "Start typing to begin…"; your first character starts the clock.
After time expires, review WPM and Accuracy, then press "Restart" for a fresh passage.
