About this tool
Use the three modes for three different questions. “% of Number” calculates percentage ÷ 100 × value. “Is What %?” divides the first number by the second and multiplies by 100. “% Change” finds the size of the difference with |new − original| ÷ |original| × 100, then labels the result as an increase or decrease by comparing the two values. Here are three common checks: 18% of a $75 purchase is $13.50; completing 45 of 60 tasks means you are 75% finished; and a price moving from $80 to $92 is a 15% increase. The same modes help with discounts, tips, grade calculations, nutrition labels, budget changes, and month-to-month business figures. Pick the mode that matches the unknown value, then enter the numbers in the order shown by the labels. For percentage change, the original value is the baseline, so reversing $80 and $92 produces a different percentage. A zero baseline has no meaningful percentage change because division by zero is undefined; the current tool displays 0 in that case, so treat it as a signal to compare the raw amounts instead.
