    About this tool

Analyze pasted or typed text with live totals for words, characters, characters without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, and estimated reading time. Words are identified from non-whitespace groups, while reading time uses an average rate of about 200 words per minute. Character totals help distinguish strict field limits from visible prose length, and paragraph counts reflect separated blocks of text. A 1,000-word article has an estimated reading time of roughly 5 minutes. A 300-word presentation introduction takes about 1.5 minutes to read silently at that benchmark, though speaking will usually be slower. Use the counts for an essay requirement, application form, blog draft, newsletter, report, product listing, or social post before submitting it. Paste the complete draft and watch every metric update as you edit. Hyphenated terms, abbreviations, URLs, emojis, and unusual punctuation can be counted differently by other software, so compare against a publisher’s official checker when a hard limit matters. Reading time is an estimate rather than a promise; vocabulary, formatting, audience, and reading purpose all affect pace. Clear the text box when moving to a new document.
