Track text length as you type and compare the total with reference limits for common online formats. The main count includes letters, numbers, punctuation, spaces, and line breaks as characters in the JavaScript string. Progress indicators show how close the draft is to each listed platform threshold, which is faster than repeatedly pasting into a publishing form. A 140-character update uses half of a 280-character reference limit. A standard 160-character SMS fits in one basic segment, while 161 characters may be split into multiple segments and can have different per-segment capacity. Use the counter for headlines, metadata, form answers, ad copy, profile bios, database fields, or a concise message before sending. Platform rules can change and may weight links, emojis, combined Unicode symbols, or non-Latin characters differently from a simple string count. Treat the displayed limits as practical references, then verify in the destination app when exact acceptance matters. The tool does not judge clarity or quality; a shorter edit can still communicate more. Clear starts a fresh draft, while leaving text in place lets you revise and watch the total fall or rise immediately.
