Speech Time Calculator
Estimate how long it takes to speak or present your text content.
About this tool
Estimate how long a speech, script, or presentation will take from its word count and a selected speaking pace. The calculation is words ÷ words per minute; the tool formats that duration in minutes and seconds. Pace presets represent different delivery styles, making the estimate more realistic than using silent reading speed. At the Slow preset of 110 words per minute, a 550-word speech takes about 5 minutes. The same text at the Average preset of 150 words per minute takes about 3 minutes 40 seconds. A 1,100-word script at 110 WPM needs roughly 10 minutes. Use this when fitting a wedding toast, classroom report, sales pitch, podcast segment, video narration, or conference talk into a scheduled slot. Real delivery includes pauses, laughter, demonstrations, slide changes, questions, emphasis, and improvised remarks, so the estimate is a baseline. Choose a slower preset for technical material or a multilingual audience and leave buffer for transitions. Paste only words that will actually be spoken; stage directions and URLs can distort the count. Rehearse aloud with a timer before an important event, then shorten or expand the script based on the measured run rather than pace alone.
How to use
Paste the speech, script, or presentation into the large text area.
Set "Speaking Pace" to the option closest to how quickly it will be delivered.
Check the estimated duration and pace comparison below; the clear icon removes the script.
